Collaborations and PartnershipsAs well as its interest in producing and performing classical pieces, DanceIhayami is pioneering exploratory relationships between Classical Indian Dance and Music and other art forms. Recent works feature Pure Classical Indian choreography to Irish; Scottish; Middle Eastern; and Western Classical Music and Collaborations include: Bharathanatyam and: ballet; contemporary dance; Egyptian belly dancing; Kathak; and Mohiniyattam to name a few.DanceIhayami produces and regularly presents work influenced by cross cultural platforms and artistic partnerships. Based on Indian Classical dance techniques, it also takes interest in and inspirations from contemporary and new dance movements creating distinctive ideas and values that appeal to audiences across the widest possible spectrum. Indeed, thousands enjoyed 'Off Kilter' during 2004, which was described as a 'cultural mosaic' of Dance in Contemporary Scotland. Similar artistic partnerships include work with the Paragon Ensemble (a group of Musicians from the Middle East) since 2003, and work with In2national which involved a collaboration between classical Indian and Chinese music and dance. Priya and her dancers have also performed in Cathedrals and Temples as well as Theatres all over the UK; with street dancers at the Plaza in front of the Pompidou Centre in Paris; in China, and in India. The Company promotes such partnerships through UK tours (including the Highlands and Islands); Western and Eastern Europe; New Zealand and the USA. The company will be touring in Malaysia in 2007. |
